Georgia Pacific's Containerboard division is currently seeking a talented Safety Professional to join our Brewton, AL team.

The Senior Safety Specialist will lead and support safety initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.

This role focuses on fostering a proactive safety culture, managing contractor safety programs, and driving continuous improvement in workplace health and safety.

Our Team

The Brewton Mill produces white top linerboard and solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard.

The SBS material is used to make GP's Dixie plates.

White top linerboard is used in production of corrugated containers and displays.

What You Will Do



* Develop, implement, continuously improve, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA 1910 and other regulatory requirements.


* Lead respiratory protection programs and ensure compliance with applicable standards.


* Collaborate effectively with the facility team to integrate safety into operations.


* Lead new hire onboarding and orientation for safety requirements.


* Partner with Learning & Development (L&D) to deliver required safety training programs.


* Understand and apply OSHA 1910, ANSI, NFPA, and Alabama regulatory requirements.


* Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work programs.


* Conduct risk assessments and incident investigations; recommend corrective actions.


* Manage contractor safety programs, including ISNetworld (ISN) compliance and onboarding processes.


* Monitor and report safety performance metrics; identify trends and implement improvement strategies.


* Lead the Lockout/Tagout (LTV) program to ensure proper energy control procedures.


* Oversee machine guarding compliance and improvements.


* Manage and enforce safe work permitting processes for high-risk tasks.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)



* Minimum 5+ years of safety experience in manufacturing


* Strong knowledge of OSHA 1910, ANSI, NFPA, and state regulatory requirements.


* Prior RCA experience.


* Lockout/Tagout experience.


* Experience with contractor management systems (ISNetworld).


* Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.


* Ability to analyze data and implement effective safety solutions.

What Will Put You Ahead



* Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.


* CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM preferred.


* Experience with PBM and HOP frameworks.


* Paper industry experience is a plus.


* Proven ability to influence and drive a strong safety culture.


* Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.


* Experience with control of hazardous energy and machine guarding program development
