Sr Manager of Data Engineering / Payments Plaform

As a Senior Manager of Data Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank Payments Technology team, you serve in a leadership role by providing technical coaching and advisory for multiple technical teams, as well as anticipate the needs and potential dependencies of other data users within the firm.

As an expert in your field, your insights influence budget and technical considerations to advance operational efficiencies and functionalities.

Job responsibilities



* Provides overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of entry-level to mid-level data engineers that work on basic to moderately complex tasks


* Develop and maintain data models and architecture for the Payments data platform


* Establish and manage contracts with upstream data providers


* Design and implement an opionionated canonical model for data consistency and integrity


* Oversee schma validation, evolution and mapping between data layers


* Provide the instrumenation of the toolchain to generate Python, Java and other artifacts from models stored in the code repository


* Manage a team of three direct reports, fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment


* Collaborate with cross-funtional teams to ensure alignment with businss goals and objectives


* Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills



* Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience .

In addition, 2 + years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise


* Proven experience in data architecture and data engineering, preferably in the financial services industry


* Strong expertise in data modeling, schema design, and data integration


* Proficient in SQL


* Experience with data contract management and working with upstream data providers


* Strong understanding of canonical models and data mapping techniques


* Experience with schema validation and evolution


* Proficient in Python and Java for toolchain instrumentation


* Excellent leadership and team management skills


* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills


* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills



* Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud


* Familiarity with data governance and data quality frameworks


* Knowledge of big data technologies and distributed systems


* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices


* Certification in data architecture or related field
