Optician I - HSPP (2nd Shift 2:00pm - 10:30pm)
Under minimum supervision, the Optician will fabricate optical parts following established procedures utilizing one or more standard processes.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
* Hands-on Optical Fabrication - 75%
+ Performs all the following High Speed Precision Polishing (HSPP) fabrication processes: cleaning, generating, grinding, polishing, beveling, and blocking using manual and CNC equipment/processes
+ Be able to grind/polish aspherical/spherical parts to tight tolerances
+ Learn machine operation and set ups as well to be able to support multiple functions/operation
+ Able to use calibrated interferometers to measure surface irregularity
+ Maintain production process equipment using standard operating procedures
* Material Handling & Safety - 5%
+ Follow proper material handling procedures for each material used
+ Follow proper safety rules and precautions, policies and procedures specific to fabrication processes, including the use of protective apparel
* Paperwork & Record Keeping - 5%
+ Complete necessary paperwork and record data manually
* Training & supervise - 5%
+ Have clarification of objectives, participation, communication and an active willingness to help your peers, technicians, process engineers and supervisors to meet customer deliveries and company objectives
+ Help management to promote teamwork participation
Education & Experience
* High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Must demonstrate expertise in grinding area and have basic knowledge in one other area of the fabrication processes, possess 1+ years of related experience or education
Skills
* Mathematical Skills
+ Ability to calculate figures and perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
+ Ability to use a scientific calculator and perform basic calculations.
* Language Skills
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
+ Ability to communicate in English and speak effectively before small groups of employees in the organization.
* Reasoning Ability
+ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
+ Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
+ Ability to anticipate problems and proactively identify potential problems.
