OPS Prevention Caseworker - Oswego County

Liberty Resources is seeking an OPS Prevention Caseworker for Oswego County

Position Summary

The role of a Preventive Caseworker is to assist families in creating goals and working towards self-sufficiency while avoiding involvement with the legal system.

This is done by meeting families in their home to provide social casework activities addressing economic, emotional, social, and environmental difficulties.

Preventive Caseworkers coordinate with other service providers on implementing interventions designed to: 


* Improve school attendance, performance, and relationships


* Improve family functioning


* Increase safety factors in the home


* Decrease behaviors such as leaving the home without permission, stealing, aggression, and overall defiance

Job Responsibilities


* Assess children for risk, develop and implement service plans addressing the risk factors


* Advocate on behalf of children and families to ensure adequacy of services by providing linkage and coordination with county providers and agency


* Work with Family Court as needed through drafting reports, testifying, and locating foster care placements


* Maintain effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of client and program goals.


* Provide services while practicing cultural humility.

Empowers clients by using their cultural strengths and informal networks in service delivery


* Complete various reports and paperwork in a timely manner to document work done

Qualifications:


* Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related experience working in a school and/or home-based setting providing services to individuals and families.


* Knowledge and/or experience of complex systems (ex.

Probation, Family Court, Foster Care), child welfare, juvenile justice and Oswego DSS systems and protocols.


* Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to incorporate that understanding into service provision.
