About the Role

At Alcoa our mining is quite unique, we are privileged to be able to operate in one of the most beautiful parts of our country and sustainability and rehabilitation of that land is core in our everyday practices.

We are currently offering opportunities for individuals to start their mining career with us as one of our Mine Worker Trainees based at either our Huntly or Willowdale mine.

Working for one of the world’s most innovative and community focused Bauxite Mine operations, these roles will provide you experience across production, rehabilitation and development whilst enabling you to be at home every night.

As a Mine Worker Trainee, Alcoa will provide all the encouragement, support and tools you need to thrive in your career as you start out in the mining industry.

You don’t need to have industry experience, but the right motivation, an inclusive working attitude and a passion to learn about our fixed plant operations.

This 12-month Traineeship provides on and off the job competency-based training whilst working in a challenging and high-tech environment.

Working to complete TAFE studies, you will be rewarded with a nationally recognised qualification in Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations on completion of the traineeship.

Our supportive learning environment accompanied by our experienced and helpful trainers by your side; every day will be different as you are.

Completing three-month rotations and working 3 x 12-hour day shifts per week, you will gain exposure across:


* Stacking and reclaiming – it’s here the bauxite comes off the overland conveyor, is stacked in stockpiles or delivered by train to the refineries.

You will be conducting weekly maintenance and component change-outs.

As well as physically demanding overhead work, you will be full trained to operate a variety of mobile equipment including skid steers forklifts, mobile cranes and elevated work platforms.


* Crushing – another maintenance driven role, you will work closely with mechanical trades responsible for two crushers and a transfer station, operating mobile equipment and cleaning up using high pressure hoses.
