Saw Filer Trainee

Your Job

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Saw Filer Trainee at our Lumber Mill in Diboll, Texas.

This role will be responsible for sharpening and performing routine maintenance on the bandsaws and round saws with steel, carbide and Stellite teeth.

You will also be responsible for performing routine changes of saw blades and guides at the machine center, ensuring reliability of equipment.

Successful applicant will enter a training program designed to develop into a skilled AA Saw Filer.

Starting pay is $21 and upon successful completion of the program and based on performance, pay potential is up to $30.

What You Will Do



* Perform inspections, replace saws and guides and record any problems


* Grind and replace teeth on saws to proper quality specifications to maintain sharpness


* Check lumber surface finish and adjust as required


* Maintain all tools and equipment


* Be willing and able to work any shift, on-call, holidays, weekends and overtime as needed


* Be willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day


* Be willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)



* At least six (6) months or more of work experience in a sawmill, production, or military environment


* Basic math skills to include geometry and measuring with precision

What Will Put You Ahead



* One (1) year or more of experience working in the lumber or timber industry


* Six (6) months or more experience working within tight tolerances using lathes, mills and other machining equipment


* Welding experience
