Claim Director-Med Risk

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Claim Director, under minimal direction from the manager, investigates and settles claims promptly, equitably and within established best practices guidelines.

The Claim Director will be responsible for:


* Investigating and resolving high exposure, medical risk and long term care claims, which includes developing resolution strategies and negotiating settlements


* Analyzing coverage; communicates coverage positions, as warranted, under direction of supervisor and coverage unit, and prepares comprehensive coverage letters with detailed analysis and when appropriate


* Evaluating exposure through an in-depth analysis of legal and factual issues, retaining and managing litigation counsel through trial, developing and managing strategy for complex litigation


* Attending arbitrations, mediations, and trials


* Reviewing legal budgets and legal and third-party vendor's bills


* Presenting litigation strategy on complex litigation matters to senior management and underwriting staff


* Support business leaders on an as needed basis on various claim and underwriting related issues and marketing meeting


* Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of third-party damages


* Directs and monitors assignments, with minimal direction from the manager, to experts and underlying defense counsel


* Timely sets reserves within authority and makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to supervisor


* Reports to reinsurers/excess carriers and facilitates the prompt collection of reinsurance on those matters where they are accountable


* Travels to conferences, mediations, and trials as necessary
