The Department of Waste Resources is seeking multiple Maintenance and Construction Worker (MCW) positions to be based at the Badlands Landfill, located in Moreno Valley, Lamb Canyon Landfill, located in Beaumont , and throughout the County of Riverside.
Competitive candidates will have a strong maintenance construction background.
Qualified candidates will possess h eavy manual labor experience utilizing various hand and power tools, while near and around light to medium construction equipment, will include, but not be limited to: appliance removal, hazardous material removal; grounds maintenance at the landfill site; graffiti removal; facilities maintenance; cleaning up illegally dumped trash/litter on county owned roadways.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of field maintenance or construction work; operates hand tools, power tools, trucks, and/or other motorized equipment in the performance of maintenance or construction projects; and performs other related duties as required.
The Maintenance and Construction Worker is a first working level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position.
Incumbents are required to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks, which often includes the operation of the less complex and smaller motorized equipment (e.g., two-axle or three-axle trucks, water spray trucks, loaders, mowers, chippers, and compressors).
Functions in which this work is performed include road and flood control construction and maintenance, refuse disposal site operations, maintenance, recycling, excavations, fence building, weed abatement, signing, rodent control, and tree trimming.

• May perform routine fire and life safety inspections of various occupancies.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports of properties in compliance or violation of fire safety laws and regulations.
• Assist in the preparation of graphs and charts for use by the Fire Prevention Program staff.
• Perform AB38 and Defensible Space InspectionsKnowledge of: Common fire hazards and fire safety practices.
