We are seeking a part-time, temporary employee for a period of 3 months, with an anticipated total of 8 hours per week.
The duties include educating and training professional engineering staff in a wide range of activities involved in the production and testing of iron garnet-related Faraday rotator materials.
These materials are used in applications such as optical isolation for laser-based communication systems operating at various wavelengths in the near-infrared region.
Specific background required includes:
20+ years experience in liquid phase epitaxial (LPE) growth of thick film iron garnet wafers on lattice-matched garnet substrates
Ability to visually characterize morphological characteristics of the grown films
Ability to perform microscopic characterization to identify defects that may be present in grown films
Experience measuring the magnetic properties of these materials using a vibrating sample magnetometer
Experience measuring the magneto-optical properties of Faraday rotator materials, including rotation angle, extinction ratio, and insertion loss using a magneto-optical test set
Ability to review and analyze collected data on various materials to qualify them for shipping to customers
Knowledge of associated electrical and electronic equipment used in the growth and characterization of iron garnet films and ability to troubleshoot and repair such equipment as needed
