CNC Machinist

Primary Duties & Responsibilities


* Set up and operate CNC mills, or multi-axis machines


* Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications


* Load and edit CNC programs using G-code and CAM software


* Select tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds for optimal machining performance


* Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks


* Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and production issues to minimize downtime


* Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes


* Monitor production runs and adjust machine offsets as needed


* Train and mentor junior machinists and machine operators


* Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on process improvements


* Perform preventive maintenance and maintain clean, safe work areas


* Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards


* Document setups, inspections, and production data accurately

Education & Experience


* High school diploma or GED; technical/trade school required.


* 7+ years of CNC machining experience


* Advanced experience with CNC mills.

Skills


* Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, and machining principles


* Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T


* Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMM equipment


* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills


* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision


* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality


* Experience with multi-axis machining


* Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge

Working Conditions


* Work is performed in a manufacturing or machine shop environment


* Exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, coolants, and lubricants


* Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and gloves


* Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout the shift


* Work may involve tight production deadlines and fast-paced operations


* Overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on production schedules


* Strict adherence to safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies is required


* Collaboration with machinists, programmers, engineers, maintenance personnel, and quality inspectors is expected

Physical Requirements


* Ability to stand for extended periods


* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds


* Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision work


* Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery
