Job Summary

Performs a variety of administrative and engineering duties of substantial difficulty in the planning, operations, design, and maintenance of traffic signals and roadway lighting, or other areas of specialization.

Apply engineering principles and practices with a minimum of technical supervision.

Conducts and oversees the necessary engineering calculations and preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, studies and reports associated with the planning, operations, design, field implementation, and maintenance of traffic signals and roadway lighting.

Plans and directs the activities of professional and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications


* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil or electrical engineering is required.


* Six (6) years' work experience in design, construction, or engineering studies related to transportation infrastructure is required.


* Within these minimum six (6) years' experience, a minimum of three (3) years of work experience in at least one (1) of the following four (4) categories is required:
(A) Preparation and/or review of traffic signal timing plans
(B) Preparation and/or review of traffic signal design plans
(C) Performing traffic signal field inspections
(D) Preparation and/or review of roadway lighting design plans


* Possession of a valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications


* A valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Illinois is preferred.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
