Group Leader- Pack

Position Summary

Responsible for leading the efficient operation of packaging equipment and processes in a food manufacturing environment.

This role ensures finished food products are packaged, labeled, and handled in compliance with company, regulatory, and safety standards.

The Group Leader supports daily production goals by coordinating packaging activities, assisting operators, and upholding food safety and quality expectations.

Job Responsibilities

• Job leads a team, has no authority to hire and performance-manage the team.

• Job leads/supervises/manages 6-15 employees

• Operate, monitor, and assist with changeovers on automated and manual packaging equipment in compliance with food safety standards (GMPs, HACCP, and company SOPs).

• Ensure food products are packaged correctly, verifying weight, count, labeling, and date coding accuracy.

• Conduct and oversee in-line visual inspections for defective packaging, sealing, or labeling, and ensure corrective actions are taken immediately.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work area, enforcing cleaning and sanitation tasks to meet allergen control and food safety protocols.

• Accurately complete and review production paperwork and packaging logs, ensuring compliance with documentation requirements.

• Communicate with quality assurance, maintenance, and production leadership to address packaging issues or equipment malfunctions promptly.

• Assist with the onboarding and training of team members on packaging procedures, food safety, and safety guidelines.

• Reinforce adherence to company safety policies, ensure PPE usage, and promote a culture of safety and accountability.

• This role has the responsibility to understand and places in practice appropriate safety procedures.

This responsibility is achieved through education, training, use of protective equipment (as applicable) and by following safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills

• 0-1 years of experience in related field is preferred.

• Mechanical aptitude and experience with packaging line equipment (form/fill/seal, conveyors, labelers, etc.).

• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify packaging defects.

• Basic math skills and ability to complete documentation clearly and accurately.

• Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

• Ability to follow detailed procedures and adhere to strict food safety and sanitation standards.

• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Preferred Education

• High School Diploma and/or equivalent work experience is required.

Work Environment

• Work can be performed within a manufacturing plant environment with noise, extreme temperatures, and significant movement of powered equipment, people and conveyor (may depend on the role).
