Roadway Design Engineer I

Ardurra’s Transportation team offers design capabilities ranging from complex multilevel interchanges to urban arterial reconstruction to complete streets for our clients. Our portfolio features a plethora of signature projects including the I-395 Signature Bridge reconstruction project in Downtown Miami.

Each of our designs is customized, sustainable, and cost-effective for our clients covering all project types, including Design Build or Design Bid Build.

We currently have an opportunity for a full-time entry-level roadway design engineer at our office in Oviedo, Florida.

This position will provide team collaboration and guidance, learning to read and develop roadway construction plans, learning and applying design criteria, calculating quantities, and providing general assistance to help complete roadway design projects.

The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated entry-level engineer, willing to learn, have a solid approach to problem solving, and possess a basic knowledge of transportation-related design concepts, principles, and theories.

Work will be performed under the oversight and mentorship of senior staff.

 

Primary Duties


* Research, collect, and review data for transportation-related projects


* Complete technical assignments that include plans production and modeling (MicroStation), quantity calculations, and detailed cost estimates.


* Utilize specialized computer software to assist with the analysis, design, and plans production for new transportation systems or parts of systems, such as highways, streets, bridges, drainage improvements, and pedestrian facilities


* Aid in the preparation of detailed reports and documentation of the design


* Assist with plan alterations and modifications of existing streets, highways, or freeways to improve traffic flow


* Participate in constructability reviews, construction observation, field reviews, and preparation of documentation


* Function as a backup to other staff in the Transportation group to perform related work as needed

 

Education and Experience Requirements


* Bachelor’s degree in engineering


* Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam


* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with MicroStation or similar software


* Prior practical experience performing engineering tasks for surface transportation projects or familiarity with related software packages, such as GEOPAK, OpenRoads Designer, and ArcGIS, is a plus.


* Ability to communicate technical information, demonstrate flexibility, and work well with others


* Possess attention to detail, a positive attitude, and organizational and time management skills
