Accountant Trainee-Accountant II
ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside's Environmental Health Department has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant (Trainee - II) to join our team.
The selected candidate will play a crucial role in financial operations, with responsibilities that include reconciliation of accounts receivable, project costing, and various accounting duties.
Key Responsibilities:
* Reconcile accounts receivable and track project costs.
* Perform project accountant duties, including analysis and compilation of project costing reports.
* Run reports and statistics to support financial analysis.
* Review journal entries for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
* Manage deposits from initiation to completion.
* Utilize chargeback codes effectively.
Desired Skills:
* Proficiency in accounts receivable and billing.
* Knowledge of desktop procedures and workflow processes.
* Familiarity with financial reports, statistics, and chargeback codes.
The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and depends on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Accountant Trainee:
• Review and recommend recordkeeping controls for fiscal units.
• Examine and verify fiscal recordkeeping systems and procedures.
• Examine and verify fiscal documents (e.g., vouchers, warrants, requisitions, purchase orders, receiving records, and invoices).
• Prepare trial balances, reconciliations, work sheets, and schedules.
• Prepare basic accounting, statistical, and narrative reports.
• Classify and distribute income and expenditures to proper accounts.
• May assist in the preparation and maintenance of the budget and internal controls.
Accountant I:
• Establish, review, revise, and maintain controls on fiscal record-keeping functions.
• Examine and analyze fiscal record-keeping systems and procedures.
• Examine, analyze, and verify fiscal documents (e.g., vouchers, warrants, requisitions, purchase orders, receiving records, and invoices).
• Prepare trial balances, reconciliations, work sheets, and schedules.
• Prepare or assist in the preparation of a variety of accounting, statistical, and narrative reports.
• Review, evaluate, and may assist in the preparation and maintenance of the budget and internal controls.
