Chief Privacy Counsel

This Associate Chief Counsel role will report to the Chief Privacy and Innovation Governance Officer and will manage the team responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on high-profile issues related to privacy, cybersecurity, and data protection matters.

In addition, Associate Chief Counsel will play a significant role by providing legal counsel related to key enterprise priorities, including supporting the expanded use of data and analytics across the enterprise.

Additionally, Associate Chief Counsel will be responsible for providing counsel related to the development of a streamlined cross-company access process to ensure that data is accessed and shared appropriately across all of Cigna's businesses.

Associate Chief Counsel will provide legal counsel on cyber security related issues, including data breaches, ransomware events, and other cyber threats.

Associate Chief Counsel must partner effectively with colleagues in Cigna Legal and business leaders across the organization to ensure that legal risks are proactively identified and mitigated.

Additionally, Associate Chief Counsel must have significant experience handling legal disputes and issues with external stakeholders, including clients and regulators.

This is an enterprise role that requires seasoned judgment, diplomacy, effective communication, and demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues proactively.

Associate Chief Counsel will operate as a thought partner with business leadership and functional peers, including those in IT; Cigna Information Protection, Data Governance & Analytics; Government Affairs; Product; Sales; Service Operations; Clinical; Enterprise Risk Management; Finance; Marketing and Digital.

Responsibilities:

Leads a team of high-performing attorneys who:


* Counsel the enterprise with respect to the response to information incidents and data breach response;


* Negotiate privacy, security and data related language in contracts with clients and vendors;


* Support the enterprise's M&A efforts by providing advice on all data, cyber and privacy related issues;


* Provide guidance on the appropriate methodology to de-identify data;


* Provide guidance on the development and administration of privacy notices and privacy policies;


* Provide guidance on the development and administration of data, cyber and privacy training;


* Work with Government Affairs to develop positions with respect to key legislative and regulatory developments;


* Engage with regulators on issues related to data, cyber and privacy;


* Work with Cigna Information Protection on developing a relationship with the FBI and other agencies focused on combating cyber-crime;


* Provide subject matter expertise and proactive legal guidance to the business regarding all legal and regulatory issues related to privacy, security and data;
