College Utilities Mechanic / Operator

The positions of this class are responsible for performing preventative maintenance and general overhaul work of a mechanical and hydraulic nature designed to ensure the effective functioning of gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, trucks, tractors, bulldozers and related construction and maintenance equipment.We are College Utilities working with Utility Services of Alaska and Golden Heart Utilities to bring safe and clean water and wastewater operations to Fairbanks, Alaska.

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the crew in which they are assigned with all manual labor.

The laborer will work with tools and equipment in a safe manner.

This is a temporary laborer position with a duration of employment up to 6 months.

The positions of this class are responsible for performing preventative maintenance and general overhaul work of a mechanical and hydraulic nature designed to ensure the effective functioning of gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, trucks, tractors, bulldozers and related construction and maintenance equipment.

What you'll do


* Perform preventative maintenance and general mechanical overhaul and repair work on automobiles, trucks, tractors, bulldozers and related construction and maintenance equipment through inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts to insure the effective functioning of equipment.


* Perform preventative maintenance on gas or diesel equipment by checking, repairing or replacing brakes, lights, doors, windows, door locks, steering gear, fuel pumps, carburetors, generators, alternators and other related parts.


* Maintains appropriate records of parts, supplies and work performed.


* Perform preventative maintenance on water and wastewater utility infrastructure


* Perform general mechanical overhaul and repair work on fire hydrants, circulating stations, gate valves, lift stations, pumps, and motors
