Employment Services Counselor II - Community Service Center

Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is looking for an Employment Services Counselor II to join the Community Service Center within Behavioral Health.

This role involves assisting participants with job searches, interview preparation, conducting mock interviews, and collaborating with community partners to strengthen relationships.

The Employment Services Counselor will also meet with participants in person to help them create resumes and will accompany them to job sites and interviews.
Bilingual preferred, not required.

Under general supervision, in the Department of Public Social Services for the CalWorks/Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) Program, develops employment opportunities by promoting various job programs to employers and community organizations; counseling participants in the developing of an employability plan; providing needed services, employment, or appropriate training; and performs other related duties as required.

The Employment Services Counselor II is the journey-level classification in the Employment Services Counselor series and typically reports to a Supervising Employment Services Counselor.

Incumbents develop employment opportunities by promoting the programs to employees and community organizations, counseling participants in the development of an employability plan, and providing assistance in obtaining employment.

This class differs from the next higher class of Senior Employment Services Counselor, which is tasked with assisting the Supervising Employment Services Counselor with the more difficult assignments in the unit.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Solicit and develop sources of employment for participants; explain program benefits and requirements to potential employers and community organizations.

• Initiate cold calls to potential employers; attend job fairs and other functions to solicit jobs; promote participation in various employment programs.

• Interview, screen and counsel participants regarding employment barriers; advise participants regarding alternate training and employment opportunities.

• Evaluate participants interests, education, and experience to determine possible program placements; develop plans to further participants entry into the labor market.

• Arrange supportive services and refer participants to appropriate training and employment services; monitor and evaluate participants progress and attendance.

• Counsel participants in interviewing skills, techniques, and etiquette for employment interviews; follow up on participants after placement in jobs to assist with work related problems.

• Administer and determine suitability for Lump Sum Diversions.

• Facilitate Self Sufficiency Through Employment (SSTE) Workshops.

• Conduct home calls to promote participation in employment programs; assist in overcoming barriers and provide job leads.
