Clinical Research Assistant

This incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the research projects of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, with a core focus on projects generated out of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN).

The successful candidate will assist registered nurses and investigators in identifying potential research subjects, reviewing medical records, collecting and processing urine, blood, and other specimens according to the methods defined in multiple research protocols, and established standards and practices.

He or she is responsible for collecting, processing, and organizing research samples for storage and shipping, labeling and recording specimens, operating simple lab equipment, such as a centrifuge, delivering specimens to other departments, and other duties directed by the division Clinical Research.

Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

Prior experience in the medical field as an "A" PCT, EMT, or Paramedic is preferred.

The successful candidate will be expected to work evening and weekend hours, with some flexibility to write his or her own schedule pending department approval.

An ideal candidate must be a team player, organized, and learn new techniques quickly.

The hiring range posted above is for a full-time position at 100% effort.

The salary range for this part-time position will be prorated based on 50% effort.

There is the potential for minimal travel (1-2x/yr) for study training.

This is not guaranteed but it is a possibility.

Experience in coordinating clinical trials is preferred.

This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville.

PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment.

Also, a current TB test will be required as a condition of employment.


Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred.

One year working in health care as an "A" PCT, EMT, or paramedic is required.

Basic understanding of computers is preferred.

Experience in coordinating clinical trials is preferred.

Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
