Protein Sales Representative

Position Purpose

Responsible for developing and executing the sales vision and goals for the Target Retail Protein business as well as gaining alignment of internal and external customer strategies.

This includes building, developing and maintaining internal and external customer relationships; researching and presenting proposed solutions and setting and measuring key performance metrics.

The Account Manager will engage with customer merchandising teams across all retail protein categories (fresh, frozen, processed meats, deli, snacking, eggs) with distribution nationwide.

Principal Accountabilities

30% Achieve all sales volume and financial objectives.
Accountable to monitor market conditions and communicate risk to the customer to avoid business disruption or negative financial impact for either Target or Cargill.

Track and report variances to planned volume or margin expectations on a continual basis and identify ways to improve overall business results.

Establish JBP processes that enahance overall customer engagement and business growth through collaborative forecasting and execution of effective promotional strategies.

25% Build, develop and maintain internal/external customer relationships.
Primary contact for this role will be with Target Corporate Sourcing, Product Develeopement and Merchandising teams.  Target is a Critical Core customer with significant growth potential in the fresh meat category.  Engagement with internal Cargill Business Teams to align on key strategic priorities and objectives for the customer. 

35% Research and identify customer business needs; develop solutions, prepare and present proposals; negotiate and execute sales programs.
Utilize category data and resources to gain an understanding of opportunities for implementation.

Analyze shipment detail on a monthly, quarterly and YTD basis compared to plan and prior year sales.  Develop action plans to close gaps and present solutions to Target to achieve agreed upon volume and margin goals.

10% Establish performance targets, measurements and results. 
Responsible for development of annual business plans and key metrics and share results on an ongoing basis with Target Merchandising team members.


• Bachelor’s Degree OR 7-10 years of experience
• Advanced skills in Word, Excel, Power Point
• Excellent verbal and written communication


• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or MBA.
• 7-10 years of experience in Retail Protein business along with previous Target Account Management experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, advanced skills in Word, Excel, Power Point, working knowledge of Power BI, Strategic Pricing and Target POL applications.
