DRS Company

DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS) a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Bridgeport/Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees.

Principal Project Engineer – MPD


Position Summary

The Principal Project Engineer is the top level position of technical project responsibility at DRS.

This individual is responsible for leading all engineering efforts for a complex new product development submarine program, meeting the customer’s critical requirements and doing so on time to agreed plans and on budget as planned.

This individual shall be the primary point of technical contact to the executive leadership of this program’s customers as well as to DRS executive leadership.

As a highly visible leader to the entire community, this individual needs to relentlessly represent both DRS’ best interests and strive for the best program outcomes in a manner which drives confidence both internally and externally.


Duties and Responsibilities

* Lead a cross functional team of 100+ engineers (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems, Test, and several Project Engineers) to successfully deliver a major component of the electric propulsion system for the next generation submarine program

* Develop strategies to overcome unplanned events, working with the customer community on any program adjustments to attain the best results for the program, and drive the execution activities required to overcome them

* Responsible for ensuring design compliance with all project requirements along with the design, development, analysis, documentation and support testing of products, systems and subsystems within the program

* Review customer specifications and requirements, and lead a project team to develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
