Sr. Director Corporate Responsiblty Communications

Position Purpose & Summary

The Senior Director of Corporate Responsibility (CR) and Sustainability Communications is responsible for developing the communications strategy to help position Cargill as a global leader in corporate responsibility and sustainability among a wide range of key stakeholders including the media, customers, governments, NGOs, employees and communities where Cargill operates.

He or she works closely with the global Corporate Responsibility and Sustainable Development practice area, counsels leaders on complex issues and is responsible for providing and overseeing communications planning and the execution of those plans for CR/S-related issues and programs.

The position also participates in a cross-functional global team within Corporate Affairs whose charge is to raise Cargill’s voice and visibility on key thought-leadership and CR and Sustainability issues to advance Cargill’s policy positions on these issues and help build allies among a wide variety of stakeholders including elected officials, NGOs, IGOs, customers and academics, among others.

This role also ensures that communications positioning around sustainability, food security, nutrition and other key issues are fully integrated.  The position plays a key role in helping Cargill build a strong reputation as an ethical company and a concerned global corporate citizen.

The position is responsible for developing issues-based thought leadership plans to enhance Cargill’s reputation.

The position also contributes heavily to Cargill’s overall external communications efforts by leading projects and initiatives to help the company become more transparent and more effectively communicate to key stakeholders.

Principal Accountabilities

50% - Develop and guide execution for Cargill’s thought leadership communications strategy, including messaging, media relations, speaking platforms, social media, measurement and reporting.  This is a multi-year, muli-pronged effort to advance awareness of Cargill’s positions, business engagement and action in key areas including responsible trade, farmer prosperity sustainable nutrition.

This requires coordination across the global Corporate Affairs team and integration with Cargill enterprises, businesses and functions.   

30% - Provide communications leadership to advance Cargill’s corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy and activities, including promotion of key focus areas, issues related to sustainable supply chains, corporate contributions and partnerships; volunteering and community engagement.  Develop the communications strategy and help ensure its execution through a variety of channels including web content, news releases, reports, speeches, presentations, fact sheets, videos and other content.
