Group Enologist

Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for supporting the Group Winemaking team, including the VP, Director, New Products Winemaker and Process & Technology Winemaker.

It is a multifaceted role with great exposure to many parts of the wine business.

Responsibilities


* Self-manage Winestyle attainment requests between Group Winemaking and Sensory


* Independently manage the used barrel inventory for all CBI wineries, distilleries and breweries nationally


* Responsible for setting up ingredient trials at various wineries dealing with winemakers, the lab and the R&D department across multiple wineries and facilities


* Conduct winemaking experiments at different wineries dealing with the Process & Tech Winemaker, lab, cellar, engineering, maintenance and R&D department at the various wineries


* Research and contribute findings to the continuous improvement of the winemaking processes and procedures


* Present at technical forums of learnings in new Winemaking practices and techniques.


* Responsible for creating SOP’s for new winemaking practices


* Assist with review and revision of Winemaking and Cellar procedures as required in collaboration with the Process & Tech Winemaker


* Assist with oak planning and coordinate between the different sites


* Member of winemaking tasting panel, participating in discussions and decisions on blends.


* Cultivate a good understanding of all winemaking procedures and production protocols


* Understand and comply with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations


* Further develop winemaking skills


* Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


* Bachelor’s Degree, including 1 year of wine industry experience


* Understanding of the winemaking process, equipment used and laboratory analyses


* Computer proficient in Excel (intermediate to advanced), Access and Word


* Good organizational, planning, and presentation skills


* Clear commitment to high quality and attention to detail


* Able to work independently with minimum supervision


* Positive attitude and flexibility

Physical Requirements/Work Environment


* Work Environment:
- Works outdoors/indoors
- Works in warm/cold climates
- Works in high places
- Works on wet surfaces
- Is exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals
- Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic
- Primary office environment may be warehouse/distribution setting


* Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and work on a computer for extended periods.
