Supervisor, Biobank

The Research BioBank supervisor working in the Nemours BioBank performs various duties and responsibilities in the identification, collection, storage and processing of human subject tissue, blood and other biological material for the purpose of medical research.

The BioBank is a biological repository that collects and stores high-quality pediatric tissue samples, associated clinical and pathologic data, and blood samples or buccal swabs from subjects' relatives for current and future research purposes.


* Manages the Biobank staff and works with the Director of the Biobank and Research Administration to develop and manage Biobank budget.

* Responsible for the development and implementation of standard operating procedures ( SOP’s) and ensures policies, SOP’s, and protocols are harmonized with relevant rules, regulations, quality standards and good clinical practices.

* Coordinates sample procurement according to the protocol, including processing frozen samples, specimens for cell culture, and processes specimens for genetic analysis.

* Responsible in coordinating the flow of samples from other sites (Orlando, Jacksonville and Pensacola).

*  Responsible for ongoing IRB application and yearly renewal Maintains the BioBank  Laboratory Information Management System  for tracking of all specimens

* Works with IT to  support the Biobank data operations and interface with clinical data systems Provides specimen processing services for clinical research studies as per protocols and processes samples when no one is available.

* Assists in performance of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual QA/QC procedures.

Collaborates with all departments to ensure research complies with organizational guidelines and regulatory standards.

* Conducts data analysis and the production of oral and written reports, participation in team meetings. 

* Participates in the planning of clinical research projects with investigators and research coordinators

Additional Responsibilities

* Attendance at seminars, journal clubs, lab meetings and other educational activities.
